Preventative Dentistry

At 92 Dental, we believe that prevention is key to maintain dental health.

We can help you achieve a stable dental health through:

Creating a lifestyle that promotes oral health

Eating and drinking as little sugar as possible, not smoking, and drinking alcohol in moderation will significantly lower your chances of developing any oral health problems.

This sounds easy on paper, but in reality we could all do with little tweaks to our lifestyle if we want to give our teeth the best chance of staying healthy.

So if you do feel that your teeth may be suffering from one too many sugary drinks (soft or otherwise), we will help you take steps towards creating healthier habits for your teeth.

This can include:

Figuring out the best way to clean and care for your teeth

We’re not going to patronise you to death about how to brush your teeth, but if we see early signs of tooth decay we will recommend changes to your brushing technique or even to your brush itself.

These fine tunings to the way that you brush will be entirely dependent on where we see problems in your mouth. We all fall into our own patterns of brushing, and this can lead to some areas of our mouth becoming neglected.

Identifying these areas, and paying more attention to them when we brush, is key minimizing the risk of developing cavities or toothache.

You need to also clean between your teeth and your gum line to prevent gum disease. This is as vital as brushing your teeth, but we understand that flossing is a habit not everyone will pick up.

If flossing isn’t for you we can work through alternatives, including interdental brushes and water flossers. Flossing is ideal, but what is more important is that you do something every day to clean your gums.

We will therefore find the best option for you.

Identifying and fixing problems in their infancy

It can take months for a dental problem to develop to the point where it even requires a filling. With 6-month check-ups and hygiene appointments we can identify the earliest signs of tooth decay, enamel wear and gum disease and manage these through cleaning and lifestyle changes.

We also will identify wider issues that can lead to oral health problems such as tooth grinding and the use of medication, adapting our care avoid any long-term oral health problems that these factors may cause.

Preventative dentistry in children

Preventative dentistry is most effective when it is implemented from a young age.We therefore provide children with comprehensive lessons on how to brush and floss their teeth, as well as guidance for parents on how to instil tooth-friendly eating and drinking habits in their children.

Prevention by Bonding

Before bonding

Teeth worn out by acids are sensitive and weak (chipping of central incisor obvious).

After bonding

Bonding white filling material to affected teeth restored shape and function and prevents further damage.
